The U.S. Air Force is developing a pilot training program to teach pilots how to fly drones, an official with the Air Force Academy said Thursday.
The program, to begin in early 2019, will involve flying drone aircraft for a day or two each week to teach the basics of piloting and flight, the official said.
The academy has not yet decided on a pilot curriculum, the source said.
The academy was also expected to announce that it would award more than $4 million in research grants for drones and other unmanned aircraft systems.
