Operational Room Aerial Training (ORTA) training is now underway in Tel-Aviv for pilots flying remote controlled airplanes.
A team of instructors from the Israeli Air Force (IAF) is currently training the pilots in the field, the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) said in a statement.
“This training is intended to prepare pilots to operate remote controlled aircraft, while providing them with a safe, comfortable and enjoyable air and ground experience,” the statement said.
According to the IDF, the training includes an aerobatic training course, air-to-air and air-ground flight training, and a pilot training course.
The training is being conducted in partnership with Tel Aviv University’s Faculty of Aerospace Engineering.
As the training is carried out, the IDF said it will also develop an “operational pilot certification” system for remote pilots.
In April, the IAF conducted a training exercise involving remote-controlled airplanes.
A total of 10 remote pilots participated in the training, which included an air-control course and an air defense course.
